Social Butterflies
Social Butterflies, a Social Skills Class for your Child, is coming soon. Our class will focus on:
- Interacting with Peers
- Meeting New People
- Working in a Group
- Asking for Help
- Relaxation/Anger Management
- Eye Contact
- Listening/following directions
- Attention
- Asking friends questions
- Non verbal communication
- Perspective talking (other's point of view)
- Recognize a problem
- Problem Solve
- Time to be funny vs not funny (humor)
- Welcome story with greetings
- Social story-puppet or book
- Craft to reinforce the story
- Use craft or alternate object for a hands-on activity
- Review and goodbye
Class activities include role playing, teaching new skills, and functional situations to carry over social skills. The class will involve some of the following:
- How do you get help?
- Planning what to say
- Eye contact-analyzing others and working on self
- Eye contact
- Repeat what you heard, write down steps
- Basic attention and focusing strategies
- Purpose of conversations and communication
- Asking your friend questions
- Developing observation and conversation skills--small talk
- Getting to know someone
- Social conversation vs formal conversation
- Comments, questions, compliments
- Non-verbal communications
- Turn taking, proximity
- Making impressions on people (what do they look at)
- How is what I say going to make the pother person feel? e.g. name calling--perspective taking
- Gaining perspective on home--siblings, parents
- Connect knowledge to a greater whole--problem solving
- Recognize problem, come up with solutions--good choices vs bad choices
- Facilitated framework, scaffolding
- Managing time
- Times to be funny vs not funny
- A 6 week program, meets once a week
- Tuition: $300
- Age group 3-5: Wednesday 8:30-9:30 am
- Age group 6-10: Thursday 4:00-5:00 pm
